Beginner Business Spreadsheet

While this spreadsheet is helpful for anyone in the early stages of their photography business, and it includes a brief explainer video that explains HOW to use it, this spreadsheet will be most helpful when purchased alongside our "Photography Business Basics" Workshop, where we explain the WHY behind each component of this spreadsheet (and SO much more!). If you'd like to check that out, visit our store, or www.hunterandsarah.com/workshops/

This spreadsheet (and the accompanying explainer video) will help you keep track of potential clients and leads, the basic financials of your business, and prepare you for filing taxes and insuring your gear! Plus, having good data about your own business is the BEST way to make smart, "data-driven" decisions, rather than just going on gut-feelings or best-guesses!

Here are the 6 components of the Beginner Business Spreadsheet:

  1. Leads - No more letting potential jobs fall through the cracks because you forgot to follow up! And no more helplessly scrolling through your gmail inbox to find that one client's phone number or last name! The Leads tab will help you keep all of your potential clients in one place. It will also help you to understand where your leads are coming from.
  2. Income - Tracking how much you make, when you make it, and who it's from is an essential part of running a real business. Plus, you (or your accountant) will need this information when it comes time to file taxes for your business!
  3. Expenses - You can't know how much your business is really making unless you know how much your business is spending, too! You (or your accountant) will also need this information for filing taxes, so start tracking it now!
  4. Estimated Recurring Expenses - Before you can possibly know how much you can pay yourself with your business, you need to know what your expenses are each month. This tab will help you gather all of the expenses you have each month (or each year), and put it all together to give you a rough idea of how much your business needs to make each month to cover your basic expenses.
  5. Fixed Business Assets - This is another way of saying, "what does my photography business own?" Keep track of this information all in one place, because you'll need it in order to insure your all-important camera gear!
  6. Charts - For all the visual learners out there, these easy-to-read and automatically-updating charts will tell you at a quick glance, where your jobs are coming from, what type of jobs you're booking, and how you're spending your money.

In addition to the spreadsheet itself, which is filled with examples and helpful reminders, there's also a video recorded by Hunter and Sarah, which explains each part of the spreadsheet and how to use it. You can re-watch the video at any time!

It is NOT necessary to have ANY prior experience using Microsoft Excel OR Apple Pages in order to use this spreadsheet. But you WILL need access to one of those programs in order to open and use the spreadsheet properly.
